For Honolulus comic book and toy enthusiasts, Star Wars wasnt the only reason to celebrate “May the Fourth”. The Ala Moana Hotel in Waikiki was the venue for the first annual Hawaii Comic and Toy Expo.
More than twenty vendors showcased a wide variety of rare and hard to find salable collectibles from properties that included The Transformers, G.I. Joe, WWE, Marvel, DC, Star Wars and many others. The assortment was impressive enough to grab the attention (and cash) of the throng of eager buyers and browsers that attended the six-hour event.
In addition to the delectable assortment of items for purchase, the Hawaii Comic and Toy Expo boasted an impressively robust guest list. Members of Hawaiis own Pacific Outpost of the 501st Legion joined acclaimed local artists Kevin Sano, Sam Campos, and Theodore Lee as well as Marvel/DC/Image Comics alums, Kanila Tripp and Andy Lee to interact with fans.
Based on the favorable impressions from attendees and given that the event was bursting at its seams with enthusiastic participants, it appears that the first Hawaii Comic and Toy Expo was a success. Theres no announcement regarding a 2015 follow-up, but it certainly appears that the geek-centric island event wont be a one-off.
