Unboxed: Bandai’s S.H. Figuarts Avengers: Infinity War Iron Spider FigureJuly 30, 2018
Bandai’s Tamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts Avengers: Infinity War Iron Spider Figure is an impressive depiction of the wall-crawler’s Tony Stark-infused costume as it appeared on screen in this year’s wildly popular superhero blockbuster. Releasing in ahead of the disc and digital release of Avengers: Infinity War, the figure offers Spider-Man fans an enduring memento to help cope with the (undoubtedly temporary) loss of the hero at the hands of the Mad Titan, Thanos. The Tamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts Iron Spider Figure is a welcome addition to Bandai’s sprawling lineup of Marvel superhero collectibles, which includes Doctor Strange, Captain America, and a host of others.
Enthusiasts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a liking for Peter Parker’s metallized getup are sure to appreciate what Bandai’sTamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts Avengers: Infinity War Iron Spider Figure delivers. The roughly 5.5-inch tall collectible impresses right out of the box and boasts a wealth of exciting features. The form faithfully recreates Spidey’s physique as well as the contours of his upgraded costume. Comprised of ABS and PVC components, the figure’s colorful exterior is masterfully cast and painted to closely match the Iron Spider’s on-screen appearance.
Like Bandai’s other Tamashii Nations action figures, the S.H. Figuarts Avengers: Infinity War Iron Spider Figure is precisely crafted to be as durable as it is playable. Its ample articulation makes the figure highly poseable by enabling a dizzying range of dynamic display options. The only downside to such extensive poseability is that without being shrouded under a fabric costume, the numerous sculpted joints of the S.H. Figuarts Iron Spider seem particularly conspicuous and wind up detracting a bit from what is an otherwise faithful presentation.
When it comes to accessories, Bandai’s Tamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts Avengers: Infinity War Iron Spider Figure doesn’t disappoint. It comes with five pairs of interchange hands (open palms, fist, clutching, and web-slinging) and three pairs of swappable eyes parts (along with a tool for changing them). In addition, the set includes short and long webs (which attach to the wrist joints to lend the appearance of dynamic web-casting), as well as a longer grippable web strand. It wouldn’t be the Iron Spider without the costume’s requisite quartet of bionic appendages so it’s comforting to see that they’re included here. The spindly golden limbs are articulated and poseable attaching to the figure’s back for even more display options. Capping off the set’s extras is the multi-part Tamashii Stage, which includes a figure stand emblazoned with the Avengers symbol and Infinity War logo (which also serves as an accessories case), three-pronged clip, interchangeable clip base, double joint, and support.
Bandai’s Tamashii Nations Tamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts Avengers: Infinity War Iron Spider Figure released in May 2018 at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of 7,344 JPY (~$66 USD).
